Short Biography

Dr. Allison Aguado is a prominent pediatric interventional radiologist and leading expert in developing minimally invasive cancer treatments for children. She is known for her pioneering work in applying advanced therapies, such as Yttrium-90 radioembolization (TARE-Y90), to treat liver cancer in young patients.

Career and Expertise

Dr. Aguado earned her medical degree from Northwestern University and completed her residency in diagnostic radiology at St. Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey. She then pursued three subspecialty fellowships, two at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in diagnostic and interventional pediatric radiology, and one in adult interventional radiology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). This unique training has provided her with the specialized expertise to deliver targeted, image-guided treatments to both children and adults with cancer. She has held faculty positions at institutions including Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Key Achievements

  • Pioneering Treatments: Dr. Aguado was an early adopter and tireless advocate for Yttrium-90 radioembolization (TARE-Y90) for pediatric liver cancer patients, a procedure she has performed since 2011.
  • Research: Her research focuses on evaluating the safety and effectiveness of interventional radiology therapies for children with cancer, including targeted drug delivery and tumor ablation techniques.
  • Recognition: She was honored with St. Jude's "Living Our Values" award for her significant contribution to advancing new therapies for children with catastrophic diseases.
  • Publications: She has co-authored research articles on the successful use of TARE-Y90 in children with hepatoblastoma.

Dr. Aguado's work has had a profound impact on the delivery of pediatric oncology care, offering less invasive options and improving outcomes for young cancer patients.
